The Welcome Back Project - Community Art Crawl
The Welcome Back Project was a community-engaged Temporary Public Art Project that responded to the varying challenges brought on by the pandemic, and to the divisive unrest that has grown in our communities and beyond. Participating artists and community members were provided with a standard unmarked welcome mat to engage with the question: “What makes a welcoming community?”. What emerged represents voices of unique experiences, place, belonging, and acceptance.
Community Art Crawl: Welcome mat artworks, created by twenty-one Ottawa-based visual artists, were installed at various locally owned businesses and organizations. Ottawa residents were encouraged to visit all locations through an Art Crawl format with an accompanying map.
Art Crawl Artists: Pansee Atta, Cat Attack Collective, Corinne Blouin, Yekta Çetinkaya, Kristina Corre, Andrea Emery, Greta Grip, Claudia Gutierrez, Zainab Hussain, Hasina Kamanzi, Gayle Kells, Don Kwan, Natasha Mazurka, Yomi Orimoloye, Christos Pantieras, Fabien Pleur, Cindy Stelmackowich, Jo (Joanna) Swim, Guillermo Trejo, Wolf Babe Collective, Melanie Yugo.
