HEY. HORNY. GRRRR. explores the frailty of human connection and sexual encounter by unpacking the semiotics of hook-up culture in online and social media platforms such as Scruff, Grindr, and GROWLr. The piece consists of thousands of letters individually cast in monochromatic concrete. The size of the letters mimics the form of the familiar letter-shaped magnets found on refrigerator doors; referencing play and recreation. The letters spill, cascade, and swell to form accumulations, piles, and stacks that reveal the most common of greetings when communicating through hook-up apps.
