Installations and Sculptures > Am I Worth It?

AM I WORTH IT? speaks to the intersection of public/virtual space and the fragility of online relationships. An immersive installation, a floor is tiled with thousands of letters cast in concrete and grout with silica sand. Viewers engage directly with the installation as they walk on the surface with the immense word search beneath their feet. The installation stimulates considerations and tensions between an indoor/outdoor space, a site that has been uncovered (i.e. an archeological dig), or a site that is in a state of burial. Seven words intentionally push up and emerge from the surface to reveal the sentence: “I’m not willing to make the effort”. This statement is sourced from a text message received in response to an inquiry about the development of a romantic relationship and its next steps. The relationship ended unexpectedly and abruptly. All that remained were ones’ words placed in a manner to be stepped on, and the personal consideration: Am I worth it?

An essay, by Marie-Hélène Leblanc, is available in Publications.
